Global, flexible and individual support
FRIDA- Fostering rights and agency with girls and women with disability from culturally minoritised groups
The Support-Girona Foundation participates as an associated partner in the European project FRIDA, an international initiative aimed at promoting the agency and empowerment of girls and women with disabilities from culturally minoritised groups in the educational, employment and family spheres. Despite the progress achieved in terms of rights, society is still far from fully guaranteeing equal opportunities for these girls and women. FRIDA adopts an intersectional perspective, which makes it possible to analyse how discrimination is constructed through the interaction of multiple factors — gender, disability, cultural background or social situation — rather than from an isolated viewpoint.
An international and interdisciplinary project
The FRIDA consortium is made up of 15 academic and non-academic organisations from 11 countries across Europe, Latin America and Africa. This diversity ensures a global, plural and socially just approach.
The project is framed within the MSCA Staff Exchanges programme, which promotes mobility and collaboration among professionals, researchers and institutions, fostering mutual learning and knowledge transfer.
Exchange and collaborative work at Support-Girona
One of the core elements of FRIDA is the exchange of professionals among the participating organisations. In the case of Support-Girona, the project represents a key opportunity to strengthen both internal and external collaboration.
Professionals from the different areas and departments of the foundation will actively take part in these international exchanges. Through placements, working meetings and shared spaces for reflection, the project will promote:
• The exchange of good practices in social intervention and inclusion.
• The co-creation of knowledge with organisations from other countries.
• Professional and methodological enrichment of teams.
• The incorporation of new perspectives in the support provided to girls and women with disabilities.
These exchanges help to reinforce interdisciplinary work within Support-Girona and to consolidate a more global and inclusive approach across our services.
Results and impact
Among the main outcomes of the FRIDA project are:
• The production of an international comparative report on the rights of girls and women with disabilities from an intersectional perspective.
• The development of a toolkit for professionals, aimed at fostering their autonomy and participation in the educational, employment and family spheres.
• The creation of an interactive digital platform to make situations of oppression visible, share experiences and respond to the priorities expressed by the participants.
